| dc.description.abstract | This will be a cross sectional retrospective study aimed at analyzing the impact of motorcycle accidents on orthopaedic admissions at QECH. The main objective is to evaluate the magnitude of injuries that were admitted in orthopedic wards following motorcycle accidents at QECH. The specific objectives include; determining demographic characteristics of patients involved in accidents, evaluating the pattern of fractures sustained and associated injuries, to analyze the mechanism of injury (causes of accidents) of admitted patients who sustained fractures due to motorcycle accidents and also ascertains the proportion of fracture caused by motorcycles with other road traffic accidents. The study population will include all patients involved in motorcycle accident; and were admitted to orthopaedic wards (5B, 6A and POW) from January 2020 to December 2020 at QECH. Will exclude those who were not admitted and those involved in other aspects of road traffic accidents Patient’s medical records will be reviewed quantitatively. Information will be collected using a designed checklist with the following information: Patient and injury characteristics, date of surgery and treatment outcomes. Data will be analyzed by using STATA software and will be tested using Chi square and logistic regression. It will be processed by using Microsoft Excel 2016. Study findings shall be presented as charts, tables and graphs. We expect that motorcycle accidents have contributed to increased number of cases admitted at QECH. The findings will be disseminated to the orthopaedic department, COMREC. The data shall be strictly anonymous. Ethical approval will be obtained from COMREC and permission to conduct the study at QECH will be sought from the hospital director. | en_US |
