Type of study: Facility-based cross-sectional study Problem: Growth monitoring and promotion (GMP) concept emphasizes much on child growth and development in children aged between 0-59 months. Evidence shows that GMP improves child nutritional status and good child development. However, literature have shown that only a small proportion of children attend under-five clinic for growth monitoring more especially after completion of childhood immunization which is around 18 months. Factors that determine growth monitoring and promotion practice among mothers with children aged 24-59 months have not been documented in Malawi Objectives: This study purports to investigate determinants of growth monitoring and promotion practice among caregivers with children aged 24-59 months. Its specific objectives include; i. To estimate prevalence of growth monitoring and promotion practice among caregivers with children aged 24-59 months at Mzimba north district hospital, under-five outpatient department (OPD) ii. To assess caregiver’s knowledge on growth monitoring and promotion at Mzimba north district hospital, under-five OPD iii. To determine whether caregiver’s socio-demographic factors, knowledge and health workers practices are associated with growth monitoring and promotion practice at Mzimba north district hospital, under-five OPD. Methodology: This is a facility-based cross-sectional study. The study population are caregivers with their children aged between 24 and 59 months. They will be identified at the under-five OPD of Mzimba north district hospital, and a systematic random sampling method will be used to recruit them. Data will be obtained using an interviewer administered questionnaire. Data will be analyzed using STATA software version 16. A multivariate logistic regression model will be used to identify independent determinants of growth monitoring and promotion practice. A p-value of less than 0.05 will be considered significant in all comparative analysis. Expected findings and their dissemination: we will report prevalence of Growth Monitoring Promotion (GMP) practice among mothers with children aged 24-59 months, and also factors that determines GMP practice among them. We will share the findings with the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHES), College of Medicine Research Ethics Committee (COMREC),Mzimba north district office, district health management team. We shall also publish the results in relevant international peer reviewed journals.en_US
