This is a both qualitative and quantitative institutional based cross-sectional study aimed at assessing the knowledge of female university students on emergency contraception at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. The study will also assess the students‟ attitude towards emergency contraceptives and the prevalence of utilization of emergency contraceptives among these students. This study has been designed since it has been noted that there is a rise in the number of unplanned pregnancies among female university students. This in turn has led to poor performance, increase in school drop-out rates and unsafe abortions. The targeted population is all female university students from Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. Participants will be selected through stratified random sampling method. A sample size of 333 students will be drawn including adjustment of 10% for nonresponse. The data will be collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Microsoft 2016 Excel will be used for data entry and Strata for data analysis. Data and information will be backed up using external and Google drives. The expected results are that a lot of university students have adequate knowledge on emergency contraception than other youths with no or less educational attainment, but many are not using them due to some other factors The results of the study will be presented during the 2022 Kamuzu University of Health Sciences Research Dissemination Seminar.en_US
