A qualitative study at QECH, Blantyre(Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, 2022-02-02) Kambiri Frank Malumelo Tadala Sayenda, GilbertThis study will be qualitative and cross-sectional in nature. It will be conducted at both the antenatal and postnatal wings at Chatinkha Maternity Wing at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. An estimate of about 26 participants will be selected using purposive sampling. The study will target 12 health professionals and 14 pregnant or newly delivered women who have a child (or children) born before the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Focus group discussions with the health professionals and in-depth interviews (using a semi-structured open-ended interview) with the mothers will be conducted. Recorded interviews will be transcribed, translated and analyzed following thematic analysis approach. Informed consent will also be obtained from all potential participants before the interviews and discussions. BACKGROUND The third sustainable development goal ensures healthy lives and promotes the wellbeing for all through universal health coverage (1). The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented interruptions in the delivery of health care services across the world (2). The already strained health care delivery systems of lowest and income countries have been greatly affected by this global pandemic, and Malawi has not been spared (3). This study will focus on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the delivery of maternal health care services at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, Blantyre. EXPECTED FINDINGS The expected findings from the study will be the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the quality and delivery of maternal health care services at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, Blantyre, Malawi.
