    Knowledge, perceptions and experiences of market traders in Nairobi's Central Business District towards governments response to Covid-19 in Kenya

    Type of study: This is a qualitative study that will employ a descriptive research design to understand the knowledge, perceptions and experiences of market traders in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) towards governments response to COVID-19 in Kenya. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a disruption of an entirely unprecedented magnitude leading to many multi-sectoral approaches adopted in countries to reduce the infection rate, transmission and management of COVID-19. The effectiveness of these approaches to contain COVID-19 lies on effective crisis and risk communication which need to be prominent in developing countries. Objectives: Main Objectives ▪ To explore knowledge, perceptions and experiences of business people in Marikiti and Gikomba markets in Nairobi Kenya towards COVID-19 preventive measures. Specifically, the study seeks • To describe the levels of knowledge on COVID-19 among business people in Marikiti and Gikomba markets in Nairobi, Kenya • To explore the experience of business people in Marikiti and Gikomba markets towards COVID-19 prevention strategies • To explore factors that influence perceptions of business people in Marikiti and Gikomba markets on the government response to COVID-19 Methodology: This study will be a descriptive qualitative study. The study will be carried out in Nairobi, Kenya. The sampling method to be used will be purposive sampling. Data collection will be done using indepth interviews. Thematic analysis will be used to analyze the data. Data coding and analysis will be done following the six steps of thematic analysis. Coding will be done with the use of the NVivo software. Field notes compiled during interviews will be a complementary source of information to facilitate this process Dissemination of Expected findings: The research findings will be presented in line with the identified themes. Results of this study will be presented at the College of Medicine Research Dissemination Conference, College of Medicine Research and Ethics Committee (COMREC) and in peer reviewed journal publications. The study will also be disseminated to various stakeholders including policy makers for use in policy making, Ministry of Health in Kenya to inform national health policies, educational outreaches and conferences and other international fora. It is expected that findings of this study will be relevant to policy and practice concerning global health implementation by providing empirical evidence concerning the potential of local initiatives to supporting improved health and social care goals.
